The Tower Terror RC truck is an offering from Tower Hobbies. Since Tower Hobbies has a good reputation for customer service, this nitro powered truck seems a good choice for someone just getting started in the monster truck RC hobby. It is priced at a reasonable $299.99 which is a good entry level price for a 4WD RTR vehicle. RTR really does describe this truck as it really is ready to run right out of the box with a minimum of fuss.
Of course, all nitro engines need a break in period, and Tower Hobbies includes very easy to read and follow instructions to talk you through this and then get set up for high performance driving later. The Tower Terror RC truck features giant wheels and tires in true monster truck fashion. It also has a very sturdy and durable rigid twin plate chassis and a 170 cc fuel tank. The 1/8 scale motor coupled with the 1/10 scale body leads to some serious fuel consumption, but the large fuel tank still delivers an easy 12 minutes of riding time.
The Tower Terror is 17.9 inches in length with a width of 14.8 inches. There is an 11.4" wheel base. Other specs include a .25 ABC BB motor with pull start and a 2XT, 2 channel AM transmitter. In looking over a series of performance reviews, there seems to be a bit of a problem with the servo response, but it is easily corrected and might have been related more to a batch of weak servos rather than a design flaw in the truck.
Although this truck performs well on the pavement and on track running, its true niche is off road bashing. The solid frame and handling characteristics make it the kind of vehicle that keeps your heart thumping and a puts a smile on your face when you open up the throttle in some rough country.
The Tower Terror has a good look to it, too. Although this type of thing is not as important to some in the hobby, others like to see a good exterior look coupled with performance. Tower Hobbies includes a decal sheet with the package that gives you more design options than you can ever manage to use. The toughness of the truck, the good customer support found with Tower Hobbies, and the reasonable price make the Tower Terror a good choice for an entry level vehicle in the off road RC nitro hobby.
