RC Electric Power Mustang

The word Mustang is an interesting one and the name of this free spirited horse has been used in two very different ways. An RC electric power Mustang could be either an airplane or a car!

In World War II, the AAF used a small fighter plane powered by a British Rolls-Royce single engine. This plane was called the P-51D Mustang and it quickly became the king of the European skies. Its main mission was flying high altitude escort for B-17 and B-24 bombers and the Mustang was credited with downing almost 5,000 enemy aircraft by War's end. Art Tech has a RTF version of this famous fighter, a RC electric power Mustang that costs only about $200, but is a very detailed and flyable model.

The New York World's Fair in 1964 introduced America to a new automobile that would become an American icon. The Ford Mustang enjoyed one of the most successful new car introductions in automotive history selling more than one million vehicles in less than a year. The Ford Mustang has already gone through five generations of models while still remaining a popular and sporty choice for young American car buyers.

Of course, the Ford Mustang has been a popular choice of RC model designers as well. To many people, a RC electric power Mustang will have nothing to do with flying at all. Rather, it will refer to an electric powered RC car such as the DubCity Mustang GTR Concept model. This 1:10 scale model sells for around $70 and is a remarkable example of the detail and realism capable in a model RC car. The GTR Mustang has a 9.6 volt battery and a trigger style transmitter with a 100 meter range.

The detail is so exacting that the GTR even has a custom sound system in the trunk, wood interior details, and workable headlights. The model is RTR, or as DubCity likes to call it, ready to roll. The glossy paint job is incredible in detail. This model is just an example of the RC electric power Mustang models available. The original pony look of the 1960's, the classic Mustang look is a very popular model motif as well.

So, Mustang means different things to different people in the hobby. It might be that World War II vintage fighter or the "cool car' of the 60's and today. Regardless, there is a wide range of RC models available covering both the air and the ground versions. Mustang is a blood stirring word that conjures up images of speed and the RC hobby versions do not disappoint.
