RC Car Lights

Working headlights on your RC vehicle is one of the gifts of the advancement in miniaturized electronic components. RC car lights, today, are usually LED type and can be wired to be turned on and off remotely.

One of the many thrills of running your remote control vehicle is doing it at night with bright headlights showing the way. In the past, headlights in RC vehicles were most often small sized light bulbs that burned out easily and tended to only light up without accurately simulating the glow of a real headlight on a dark road. Today, RC car lights are generally "Light Emitting Diodes" or LED type lights. These LED RC car lights tend to cast a realistic looking light onto the terrain ahead and most often will last much longer than the batteries powering them.

Some newer and more expensive RC vehicles are already equipped with LED headlights. In fact, many have working light systems that include brake and back up lights. Some even have working fog lights using a much more powerful LED bulb. If your model is not equipped with an LED light system, it is a rather simple matter to rig one up yourself. The components are rather inexpensive and can be purchased at most hobby stores, or even electronic outlets such as Radio Shack.

The wiring and installation of LED RC car lights is not really complex unless you are planning on having an on and off control. Since most hobbyists prefer using the lights only when night driving, this is the most common way to install them, but it also involves a bit more wiring. A small amount of electronic knowledge is going to be needed to wire the switch connections properly. The people at your RC hobby shop should be able to help you through this part of it. There are also several websites that offer step by step wiring instructions.

It seems that most of the wiring will involve a bit of soldering and at least partial disassembly of the model. If you have even a little experience with soldering of electrical components, you should have not trouble. The most common tip with the disassembly part of the process is to thoroughly test the lighting system before reassembling the model.

Working headlights that capture the true realism of night driving are but an added feature of the exciting world of RC driving and racing. LED type lights have replaced the unrealistic and unreliable "light bulb" headlights of the past. The LED light sources are inexpensive, easy to install and will most likely outlast the rest of your model's components.
