High Wind Remote Control Speed Boat
High wind remote control speed boat is the name given to boats that are built for speed and more speed. The High Wind NQD Mesquite Craft is one good example of this breed.
The high wind remote control speed boat gets its name from the fact that it is designed to operate on the water in high winds. These high winds are naturally produced by the speed with which the boats move. Some can achieve speeds as fast as 25 mph over the water. The racing friendly design of these boats matches the designs used in real racing craft. The high wind name can always be taken to indicate the boats stability in windy conditions, but even on a still day, these blazers will create their own wind.
The High Wind NQD Mesquite Craft is a good example of the breed. Sold online by Hobbytron.com, this 30 inch long twin engine boat is sold totally factory assembled and ready for the water. Although normally priced close to $100 dollars, it was recently on sale for closer to $70. This was really a remarkable bargain considering what was included in the total package.
The NQD is powered by two 380 T type racing motors. The range is up to 300 feet. The transmitter uses 8 "AA" batteries which are included in the package along with a 7.2 volt rechargeable main battery. There is also a wall mounted recharging unit. The complete package also includes 2 spare props, which are the boats most easily damaged part.
One of the only drawbacks to the high speed remote control speed boat is the amount of time needed to recharge the battery and even the amount of time it takes to "heat" the battery up to proper operating condition. The boat engines should be operated on a 15/15 schedule. This means allowing them to cool down after every 15 minutes of play for a 15 minute period. The wait for charge and cool down are worth every second when you take control of the pistol grip and take this speedster for a run over the water. It is high thrill remote control racing at its very best.
High wind remote control speed boats and racers are a common item in most hobby seller's water craft line. They are a rapidly growing segment of the water based remote control hobby, and racing of high wind boats is becoming common. Although most are sold already assembled, model assembly of a good high wind racer can be a challenging addition to this hobby. It might take a bit of searching for a good assembly kits, however, as most fans of this RC device are impatient and rearing to get right to the water.
